News just in: Deaf School Cup may not be officially over until Sunday, but with Darren and Penny mathematically unable to catch Ronan and the excitement of the Curly Wurly Cup over, it is clear that he has clinched an historic treble in only his second year of Totally Skill League football. What a remarkable achievement and with such a young squad. Following his League triumph last weekend there was a joyful open-top bus parade around the streets of Newcastle last night, culminating in a grandstand celebration in Moyola Park.
Now for some reaction from the world of football:
A furious Alec Ferguson was incredulous that anyone could match his 1999 treble within his lifetime and refused to offer any congratulations.
Sam Allardice rewarded Ronan's support during their crucial play-off final with a speech at last night's parade:
"I'm so glad Ronan won the league and not that poxy Penny girl; what does she know about football anyway?"
Perhaps more gracious was this phone message from Pep Guadiola:
"Felicitations to all the Totally Skill competitors; you had a long hard season and I hope you will join me in saluting Ronan's incredible success."
Christiano Ronaldo just threw his toys out of the pram because he had played no part in Ronan's success. Loser.
So, there are just the formalities of this coming weekend's final Deaf School fixtures and then we can have this year's presentation ceremony which I am assured Michel Platini will be attending.
And then it's the Euros folks...
That was one rocking party in Moyola. They're cleaning the streets as I type.
